How to choose an advertising channel for a small business

There are many places to advertise, and no single right answer. A simple process narrows the choice.

1. Ask how customers find businesses like yours

If they search, search ads fit. If they browse social media, social ads fit. If they ask friends, referrals and reviews matter most.

2. Check where your competitors are

Search for your own services in your area. Look at who advertises, and where customers might see you.

3. Match the channel to your budget

Free channels such as reviews and a Google Business Profile cost time. Paid channels need enough budget to learn.

4. Test one thing at a time

Run one channel with a fixed budget for a set period and track the result.

5. Judge by cost per customer

Compare what it cost to win a customer with what a customer is worth.

6. Keep what works

Move money from what is not working to what is, and add a new channel only when one is profitable.
